In 1994 three women’s business organizations folded within six months, leaving a need for a women’s business group. The challenge was to create a new group that would support the women’s business community and avoid the problems and pitfalls of previous groups.
A dedicated group of women met every Friday morning for over a year to develop Connections – A Forum For Women In Business. They studied the issues and problems of the other organizations and came up with a new formula to meet the needs and visions of our members.
To make Connections unique, they filed for non-profit status. The founding members were committed to making a contribution to the community by providing scholarships to reentry women, educational seminars and community service projects. Unlike other groups, it was decided to have both breakfast and dinner meetings to accommodate the busy and varied schedules of women. No limits were placed on the number of people per profession, and there were no penalties for not providing leads.
The formula worked and Connections has thrived as a viable option for business women in Sonoma and Marin Counties since its official beginning in 1994.
